Transcript of gravestones and memorials in Crakehall churchyard,

The following gravestone inscriptions were recorded in the churchyard of St Gregory Parish Church in Crakehall in 1974 by George Hancock. They are arranged in alphabetical order of surnames. They are followed by a list of earlier gravestone inscriptions from Bedale churchyard that refer to Crakehall people.

Sacred to the memory of Flora E.S. Binks, daughter of John and Eleanor Binks, who died July 17th 1859, aged 16 months.
The lovely bud, so young and fair,

Erected in memory of Ann, daughter of Phillip and Ann Braithwaite of Crakehall who died May 12th 1855, aged 21 years.
Pause for a moment and reflect, you my friend may be the next to quit this world.

Sacred to the memory of Eleanor, the wife of William Castling of West Pasture House, who died September 30th 1851, age 58 years
For love and virtue none could she excel,
Though called to prove the secrets of another world,
Her children and her parents,
She gave them good advice,
While passing through the pilgrimage of life.

Erected in memory of Mary wife of Thomas Eden of Langthorne, who departed this life May 19th 1844, aged 41 years.
ALSO Isabella, their daughter who died October 13th 1844, age 1 year 9 months.

Erected in memory of Elizabeth, wife of Thomas Eden of Crakehall, who died ..[ illegible ].. 1860, aged 65 years.
I was with pain so long oppressed, it wore my strength away,
It made me long for endless rest, which never can decay.
Afflictions sore, long he [sic] bore, physicians were in vain,
God thought it best that she should die,
And free him [sic] from the pain.
